Charles Dewhurst - Biography

A direct descendant of
gow
Neil Gow
The Great Scottish Fiddle Player
(1727 - 1807)

Broadcasting is a world away from my upbringing on the family farm in Perthshire, Central Scotland, where my parents and grandparents were well known for their Shorthorn Cattle and Black faced Sheep. Why didn't I carry farming on, I wish I knew !!!

It was my introduction to the world of Celtic / Folk music that probably paved the path towards the world of broadcasting. Cheers for that Derek. (Tandem Folk Band).

After a period of time in Ireland where I spent many hours in radio stations promoting specific events that I was running, I returned to Scotland on St. Patricks day 1992. (I do not remember much about the journey, apart from it being very emotional, and a very drunken trip after joining a party of Derry Footballers who had been informed, from the off in Dublin, that I was now returning home).

Times marched on, and all over the country, before I finally settled in the Outer Hebrides where my love of the microphone took off. At this point I was well used to public speaking, acting as an MC at weddings in the Hotel where I worked as Operations Manager. Radio then took over all my spare time and my inclusion in the programming schedule of Highlander Radio from Boston in late 2006 has given me a great sense of achievement.

However it is not going to stop there. I have an ambition of broadcasting from South Africa, Japan and Russia (much to the Shows Producer and my Webmasters horror. Does my brilliant Webmaster not realise he might have to provide the Website in differing languages) I did investigate the Antarctic but found the station there, which is absolutely brilliant, concentrated more on the Blues side of things.

Along the way I have met some lovely people, most of them featured on my website, but I do look forward to helping in my own way, promoting their albums and hopefully at the same time boosting their profiles.

In summing up, I must thank you, the listeners for your support, your lovely comments on my Website, which I keep copies of before deleting to make way for more, and your fantastic e mails.

One special and huge vote of thanks, I give to Deirdre Shannon for her friendship, her kindness, her voice and her support for No Celtic Boundaries. God bless you Deirdre.

And that is it in a nutshell.

If you really want to know more, please do e mail me at charles@nocelticboundaries.com and I will try my best to help you, but in all events I will answer your e mail personally with honesty and sincerity.
