It has been ages since I even looked at this page, so thought it was about time that it got a bit of a makeover.
Before you all start shouting 'Where's Gemma', well she decided that life away from the Hebridean Islands was a better proposition regarding her full time job, but here is her picture. She always will be welcome back on No Celtic Boundaries.

It could be an interesting show should I get caught up between both Gemma and Rena. (Maybe I should reword that), but both of them are extremelly self opinionated women who can give as good as they get. The only thing I will never forgive Gemma for is playing a Lena Martell track. That nearly ranked as the all time down side of No Celtic Boundaries, until I was forced to play a Daniel O'Donnell track. To actually make it three in a row, all we have to do is persuade Rena to play a Westlife track. The chances of that happening is ZERO !!. When I asked her to interview them, the abuse I got was ear splitting and in a strong Belfast accent that sounded even worse. Why do I always get self opinionated women !!!!!. Will all you guys in America stop refering to Gemma as the 'No Celtic Boundaries eye Candy'. No I have not told her, she has a big enough head without that being thrown at her.
Another Co presenter who has helped out is of course Glenn Denny from Isles FM. Not as much as I would have liked due to his own work commitments but it is a rare moment to get Glenn on the show with his mad moments. One thing we do agree on is that the Afro Celts are one sh** hot band.
It has been so long now that No Celtic Boundaries has been broadcasting, but the fun has not gone out of it. Many new musicians have come to our attention (Thanks to myspace.com) and the interviews have continued to flood in.
The only difference nowadays is that absolutely everything, from recording, mixing, editing, producing, posting etc is all done by myself. Very time consuming but means that I get things done the way I want them done rather than being stereotyped.
Recently I was invited to do a voice over for the BBC. The presenter in question, Angela Mackay, broadcasts and produces Gaelic programmes. I have been trying to interview her about the history of our own native language. Was this to be the moment. Alas NO. Sitting in the BBC studio I was invited to read the script. Out came, "Good Evening and Welcome to No Celtic Boundaries, on tonights show we have ......" at this moment I was rudely cut off and told to stop messing about !!!. Angela, you really don't know how more determined that has made me !!!
Where does it all go from here ?
If I was a mind reader I could tell you, but we just go with the flow and see what doors open, but it has been an amazing experience and has given me the opportunity to speak to some of the most amazing people I could only have dreamed about interviewing. The ultimate for me, personally, is of course Mary Black. The day I pass onto the great studio in the sky, please have engraved on my headstone 'I interviewed Mary Black'.
I have a few more tricks up my sleeve and a few more challenges to undertake so watch this space !!!
No one is beyond the prying questions of No Celtic Boundaries !!! |
